Our Process
THE WATER RESTORATION PROCEDURE
Proper and thorough flood restoration requires a scientific method using a 2-stage process that utilises a combination of water extraction and then air movers with de-humidification to completely dry an area back to its pre-existing condition.
Throughout the entire procedure our trained Mr Flood technicians will oversee the entire flood restoration process for you and will guide you through all the aspects involved from the very first phone contact.
Our technicians will also liaise with building managers, strata managers, estate agents, landlords and tenants, as well as other additional professionals who may be involved in the flood restoration process. In this way we can ensure that this difficult event is handled in a controlled and professional manner so you can rest assured that your home or business will be back to normal as soon as possible.
STEP 1: Contact Mr Flood on 1300 673 566
Mr Flood offers true 24/7 and 365 days per year fast response service and our trained flood restoration technicians are always waiting to take your call.
During the first phone call a technician will provide you with invaluable advice about how to deal with the situation immediately, as well as general advice about how to act and whom else to contact. They will also advise you on how soon our nearest technician can attend to your site, which is usually within as little as one hour of your call.
Another service they’ll provide is advice on whom will ultimately cover the costs for the flood restoration, as this is often a complicated matter regarding multiple parties.
STEP 2: Water Damage site inspection
Upon arrival our technician will conduct a thorough inspection of the site and assess how best to approach the flood restoration. From here a restoration plan will be devised to restore the property as quickly as possible.
The technician will also take a host of moisture measurements and photographs that will be provided to you with a flood damage site report (upon request) that can be provided to your insurer.
STEP 3: Water extraction process
The first stage of work is to conduct the water extraction process with our extraction machines.
These will remove the bulk of the standing water from the wet carpet and underlay, as well as from other surfaces or areas.
If required, we will also apply stain removal and antimicrobial treatments at this stage as well.
STEP 4: Uplift and removal of non-restorable items
In some cases of flood damage there is the need to remove and replace items that cannot be successfully restored due to old age, wear, stain damage, mould growth or other unsuitability.
Floating wooden floors are almost always unrestorable due to their laminated construction and will need to be replaced, sometimes it is more viable to remove and replace the underlay while retaining and restoring the wet carpets.
Our technicians can oversee the uplifting and removal of most of these types of items and can safely and responsibly dispose of them for you.
STEP 5: Installing drying and dehumidification equipment
The secondary stage of the flood restoration process is the evaporative drying stage, is conducted using a combination of our air mover/dryers and commercial grade dehumidification equipment to create what’s known as a balanced drying method.
Our technicians will install this equipment as required around the flood affected rooms and will give you information about how to treat these if you are to be near them during the drying process.
This stage normally takes between 2 to 7 days depending on the severity of the flood damage.
STEP 6: Ongoing site assessments, tests and adjustments
During the secondary drying stage our technicians will attend the site on regular intervals (usually daily) as required and will report the progress of the drying to you directly.
These ongoing moisture measurements allow the technicians to accurately assess the progress of the drying. From this data they will adjust equipment levels and advise you on the estimated completion date of the flood restoration process.
If contaminated water or sewerage was present during the flood damage incident our technicians will conduct swabbing samples to be sent to a laboratory for analysis. Based on these test results additional treatments will be implemented or the site can be cleared to be safely inhabited again.
STEP 7: Re-laying carpets and underlay
Once the drying stage has been successfully completed the carpets and underlay can be re-stretched and re-laid.
For smaller flood damage events this can often be done during the final site attend. whereas in larger events there may be the requirement for a professional carpet layer to attend.
If underlay has been uplifted and removed this is the time it will be re-installed or replaced with new underlay.
STEP 8: Completion of work and paperwork/invoicing
Once the job has been completed you will be invoiced for all work conducted.
If you are covered by insurance, we typically provide up to 30 days payment terms to allow time for your insurer to process the payment – allowing you to avoid being out of pocket during this time.
